Say No to Alzheimers

Alzheimer’s, a devastating condition, affects 1 in 14 people over the age of 65 and a staggering 1 in 6 individuals aged 80 and above (source: Dementia statistics.org). It is the leading cause of death in the UK, with the known number of individuals afflicted by dementia projected to surpass 1 million within the next six years. Shockingly, many individuals are unaware that they are already in the early stages of the disease. About Healthy Ageing Academy

Meet James, Founder

After a successful career spanning finance and technology, James embarked on a new journey driven by a passion for healthy living. Drawing upon his expertise in risk management from years spent analysing investment strategies, he saw the correlation with health, eventually creating the Healthy Ageing Academy. This venture stems from a desire to apply the principles of risk management to disease management, aiming to flatten the uncertainties associated with ageing in the UK.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, he has dedicated close to 30 years researching and promoting healthy living practices. This journey led him to establish HealthDreams, a supplement brand, and develop Individual Nutrition Plans tailored to each individual’s unique needs.

As a fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH), he is committed to advancing public health initiatives, which he achieves by leveraging technology to enhance our understanding of how lifestyle factors impact health outcomes. He created the Healthy Ageing Academy to spread his passion for empowering individuals to take proactive steps towards a healthier, more vibrant life.

Our Approach

Throughout the journey leading to training in Nutrition, including a systems degree specialising in health systems, qualifications in Nutrition and obtaining an MSc in Nutrition, physical activity, and public health, he has been on a quest to uncover the keys to optimal lifestyle.

Amidst the ever-changing landscape of diet fads and conflicting opinions on nutrition and exercise, James remained focused on the pursuit of evidence-based science. He disregarded trendy ideas promoted by influencers and unqualified sources, instead opting to keep a low profile while observing emerging technologies and scientific advancements. He patiently waited for these innovations to be tested, proven, and made accessible. Finally, as technology matured and evidence-based benefits became quantifiable, he seized the opportunity to integrate these advances into our approach. The programs are grounded in real results, derived from rigorous research and cutting-edge technology, offering a personalised path to wellness and vitality that transcends the noise of celebrity endorsements and anecdotal stories.

..your advice was reassuring and I feel far less confused by the conflicting advice I’d gleaned from “Dr Google”. My head has finally stopped spinning, which it has been since the shock of losing my brother and getting my diagnosis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Learn How it Works!

When is the best time to start a program?
Now. It does not matter how old you are, but once we get into our thirties, we start to run out of health. Some people maintain it, others build it back, but most use it up, just because life gets in the way. Most diseases start in our 30’s and 40’s. Heart disease actaually starts in our teens. Alzheimers starts about 20 plus years before the first signs, as do most cancers. Waiting until the first signs for any disease is not a good idea, so the best time to look at what you need to prevent against is right now, while you can still do something about it.
If it turns out that I am susceptible to a disease, I do not want my health insurance to go up.
Your health insurance company, or indeed any other company or business you are associated with, will not hear from us about any of your personal tests. Insurance companies, and even your GP, will not be contacted by anyone from the Healthy Ageing Academy, or any associated companies, regarding test results, unless you specifically ask that we do so. However, we will not discuss or disclose this information to any third party, and no organisation, medical or otherwise, has the right to request it.
Both my parents had Alzheimers disease, and I dont want to know if I am likely to, or already Yes you do. have it too.
Yes you do want to know. Not knowing, is like going on a journey with no map and no destination in mind. You just keep following a person or an idea, with no idea when or where you will arrive at a destination, and what to do when you get there. There are many reasons forAlzheimers or cognitive decline, so if a family member has had it, you will want to know what version they had. More importantly, you will want to know whether you are genetically prone, and if so, you wil want to know what you can do to halt it in its tracks, or reverse it if it is in its early stages.
My partner is becoming forgetful, can no longer hold a conversation, and loses the supermarket trolley. What can I do?
It is usually peoples partners who notice subtle changes, and become concerned, so it is good that you are asking for advice. The first thing to do is to arrange for your partner to take a cognition test so that their gognition can be measured, and then arrange for a DNA test to identify if they are susceptible to any particular form of Alzheimers. There are many reasons for gonitive decline, so by addressing it as early as possible through the healthy ageing academy, means that we will be able top help you identify any risks, and, more importantly, show you and your partner what to do one we have identified any reasons for the cognitive decline. If caught early enough, it is very possible that this can be reversed in a matter of months.
My GP says that the memory clinicwill help, but that there is no cure for Alzheimers?
Your GP will not know of any cure, so yes, they are correct in what they believe. Alzheimers is not caused by a singular event, and neither is it a singular disease, so while the medical model in the UK is still based around drugs searching to cure “a disease,” Alzheimers and Cognitive decline are not yet likely to be cured in this manner. However, that does not mean that there is nothing that can be done. You can increase the odds of preventing Alzheimers dramatically, and as part of that preventative action, anyone in the early stages can also potentially halt the decline (depending on which type of Alzheimers) as well as reverse some of the most recent symptoms, through lifestyle changes. However, there is no pill that can be taken, so without making significant and beneficial changes in your life, depending on your current lifestyle, there is no cure or help for those who are unwilling to try.
I am on regular medication for my heart disease. What can I do to stop taking this medication?
Once you have been diagnosed with heart disease, and are taking medications, it is unlikely that your GP or specialist will take you off them. However, by following our plans, you should be able to improve the health of your heart, and if by doing so, you can convince your GP or specialist that your heart is now healthy again, it is up to you and your medical practitioner, to discuss your medication in your next review.
I have been on a weight loss plan that worked for my friend. What extra do you offer??
Following a diet is a great start, but our program offers much more than dietary recommendations. While your current diet may work for some, it may not be tailored to your specific needs. Our program focuses on educating you about the optimal lifestyle choices for you. By understanding your unique genetic makeup and lifestyle factors, we can provide personalised guidance to help you achieve your health goals and maintain long-term wellness. Our goal is to empower you to make sustainable lifestyle changes that will benefit you for life
If my DNA or other results are bad, why would I want to know?
While some results may indicate areas of concern, our programs are designed to empower you to take control of your health destiny. Through personalised recommendations and the science of epigenetics, we show you how to make positive changes. By addressing potential risks and promoting healthy habits, our goal is to enhance your overall well-being and improve your quality of life. With our guidance, you have the opportunity to rewrite your health story and create a brighter, healthier future.
I had an ancestry test already and they gave me some health tips
If you’ve already undergone an ancestry test and received some health tips, we can enhance your assessment by running your DNA results through our comprehensive program. While other companies may only analyse a few SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) to provide basic health advice, our program examines a much broader range of genetic markers. This allows us to generate a far more comprehensive report covering numerous traits, diseases, and conditions relevant to your health. Feel free to request a sample report from us to compare the depth and breadth of our analysis.
Do you offer Ancestry results?
Yes, we do offer ancestry reports, and our calculations are based on a more comprehensive set of variables compared to other programs. However, please note that as our program is currently in Beta mode, we do not have the database capability to introduce you to potential relatives at this time. We recommend utilizing our services to enhance your life through improved health.
How long does it take to give me results from my DNA test?
Typically, it takes about 6 to 8 weeks to receive the results of your DNA test. However, there’s no need to worry as there are plenty of things you can learn and do in the meantime. The process involves using a sample of your saliva. We use this initial sample to grow more DNA in the lab, which is why it takes some time to provide you with your results.
You say evidence backed. How do I know what evidence you use?
When you receive a report based on your DNA, which analyzes an average of 100,000 SNPs per report (versus a maximum of 1,000 by other companies), we provide references and weight the recommendations based on supporting evidence. The company we partner with for DNA analysis currently draws from over 100,000 scientific papers, ensuring that our recommendations are firmly evidence-backed.
